GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) GIS Disclaimer:
The GIS Disclaimer never made
it to the house floor during the 2009 legislative session. The next step is to
coordinate with the Government Affairs Committee to determine if the GIS
Disclaimer will be added to their agenda for the next legislative session. Texas Geographic Information Council (TGIC) Membership Update:
The status of TSPS's Membership
Application to TGIC is as follows:
1) The TGIC Steering Committee
has voted to recommend TSPS as a member.
Jack Avis will be the primary
TSPS representative at TGIC quarterly meetings. The TSPS GIS committee will
seek an alternative representative at it's quarterly meeting in this August.
Representatives will monitor TGIC activities and discussions and report on
significant issues to TSPS Board. PAST PRESIDENTS Committee Charges: 1. Prepare, schedule and organize committee meetings. Prepare and submit committee reports in time to be included in the quarterly board books. Serve as a forum between TSPS Past Presidents and the Executive Committee. Report back to the TSPS Board. 2. Prepare a draft revision of the current TSPS Mission Statement and coordinate with the Constitution & Bylaws Committee to bring the proposed recommendations to the Board. After Board approval, incorporate the draft revisions in TSPS publications for general membership comments. 3. Work in conjunction with the Constitution & Bylaws Committee to review, analyze and prepare recommendations for revisions to the current structure of the Board. After Board approval, incorporate the draft revisions in TSPS publications for general membership comments.
Committee Activity: A
meeting was held just prior to the June board meeting to continue discussions on
revising the structure of the board and the draft revision to the TSPS Mission
Statement. The general consensus of the committee is that the structure of the
board should probably be revised in order to better serve our membership and
stimulate communication from the chapter level upwards. This concept will
require more committee work and input from the general membership. An immediate
step towards restructuring is to eliminate the Second Vice President position.
A motion will be brought before the board at this meeting for consideration.
The Past Presidents Committee will meet again just prior to the August board
meeting. Respectfully Submitted by: Coleen M. Johnson, Chair
