Course development this year will be slightly different than in previous years. We have a handful of courses that have been started but are incomplete. We will focus on completing these courses to create them as protable and ready for chapters to use. We have identified the following courses to complete:

·         Survey Math 101

·         Survey Math 102

·         Survey Instrumentation Workshop

·         Basic Field Operations

·         RTK Basic Operations & Troubleshooting

·         Safety & First Aide for Field Procedures

We will be recruiting both experienced and new course developers to help with these courses.

Additionally, we have three course developers who want to develop another course:

·         Jack Avis: Hands – on GIS

·         James Redmon: Survey Economics

·         George Forbis-Stokes: Topographic Surveys

By the time of this report, the Speaker Development Workshop will have been held with 10 attendees.

Shannan and I are finalizing the 2009 Speaker Development Schedule and Program. I plan on presenting the program to the education committee for approval.

The following have taken place since the last Board Meeting:

During the past 3 months, we have held 3 seminars.  “Implementing GIS in a Business Environment” presented in Beaumont on November 15,  “GNSS, Geodesy and Map Projections for  Texas Land Surveyors” presented in Dallas on December 6, and “The Internet for Land Surveyors” presented in Austin on December 17. All were well attended.

The following seminars are scheduled to be held over the next few months.

“Heart of Texas Boundary Retracement” to be presented March 5-7 by Gerry Goodson, Ben Thompson, Greg Smythe, Bill O’Hara, Davey Edwards and Paul Carey in Brady.

Symposium 2009 to be held in Waco at the Hilton Waco Hotel and the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame and Museum on March 20 and 21. As a bit of a change from the normal course format, we will be holding a Panel Discussion on Friday afternoon on the topic of Oil and Gas Surveying which will include panelists from different backgrounds.

And for the future,

Symposium 2010 to be held in Lubbock March 19 and 20.

This subcommittee continues to use  Go To Meeting at appropriate times, and has met as part of the Education Committee at each quarterly Board Meeting.
