I have worked with Bill O’Hara and David McDow of the Texas General Land Office to come up with ideas to increase public awareness of their website (http://www.glo.state.tx.us/).  We worked with Doug Loveday to get a direct link on the front page of the TSPS website (http://www.tsps.org/) and Chapter 2 (http://www.tsps-2.org/) and Chapter 13 (http://www.tsps-13.org/) have plans to follow suit by placing a link on their websites as well.

I then created a short presentation to present to chapter meetings and other organizations that uses the General Land Office.  This presentation details how to use the searching tools for researching land grants and maps.  It is a power point design with an actual walk-through of the search engines with some examples.

I presented this to the Fort Worth Chapter in April with success.  It opened conversation about the site and the future of the GLO.  Chris Freeman, program chairman for the Dallas Chapter, was attending this meeting as a guest.  He liked it well enough to schedule the program for their July meeting.

The presentation was designed that anyone could host it with local examples for their chapter.  I would love to present this to the board if they would entertain that.  I believe this is a good start for bringing awareness to the Texas General Land Office.

A new event will be included during the Ray Wisdom BBQ and Auction at the June 2009 Board Meeting. This year we are holding a BBQ Cook Off and inviting five BBQ teams from our TSPS membership. This effort is being tried to increase participation at the BBQ and auction and perhaps bring TSPS members to Austin from across the State who may not attend Quarterly Board Meetings. We encourage Chapters, individual members, and vendors to donate auction items for the June event.

An additional TSFI Committee report will be given to the Board of Directors on June 13, 2009 including items from our meeting held that morning.
