CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
Thanks to all of the
Area Representatives for their dedication to the chapters. A special thanks to
Craig Alderman, West Area Rep. for his hard work with the West Area Chapters.
Many of the chapters
have been very busy promoting TSPS and the surveying profession through
meetings, seminars, exhibits, Skills USA and Trig-Star. Congratulations to
Chapter 10 with their “Legends of the West” presentation and ceremony and
receiving approval for their Permian Basin Survey Program.
Also, thanks to all
of the TSPS staff, Mark Hanna, Pat Smith, Mike Parker and everyone in each
chapter that passed on and responded to the information regarding the bills and
amendments in this years session.
Please feel free to
contact myself or any of the Area Representatives with questions or comments. Respectfully Submitted,
Curtis Strong
ETHICS There has been no activity in the committee between committee members. During the 1st Quarterly Board meeting, the committee visited the role of the Ethics Committee based on it duty as lined out in Article X of the TSPS Constitution entitled "Discipline of Members". Discussion ensued as to whether the objectives in the Sections contained within Article X were realistic. We questioned the strength of the Committee's ability to enforce these tenets and if implemented whether they were attainable. The question was posited whether these Sections had been enforced in the past. It was decided by the committee that this would be the first item for the committee to pursue… to determine whether the current rules were to be upheld/enforced or do they need redefinition. Our plan is for the Chair to contact select members that have been in the Society since its inception. The Committee created a list of eight people to contact and seven questions to ask each individual. The Chair will report to the Committee at the 2nd Quarterly Board Meeting using the answers as a guide to either enforce the Committee's role as outlined in the Constitution or to redirect the mission of the Ethics Committee and redefine its function.
